Environment

At Overbury we are passionate about minimising the environmental impacts associated with fit out and refurbishment.

The construction sector often sees environmental improvement as an inconvenience. We take a more hands-on approach. To date we are the only fit out specialist that:

  • Developed and promotes our own Carbon Footprint Calculator, using the AMEE database, the most comprehensive carbon database in existence. By understanding the carbon impact of our projects we provide a benchmark for future projects, by region, sector and work type
  • Have achieved a series of ‘firsts’ on environmentally assessed projects:  the largest BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ fit out to date,  the first SKA Gold rated project and the first LEED Gold office fit out in the UK
  • Holds a series of SCORe (Sustainable Commercial Office Refurbishment) seminars to provide thought-leadership on sustainability issues

In addition, we:

  • Collaborate with waste contractors to find outlets for waste streams thought of as ‘difficult’, for example carpet tiles and insulation, and increase recycling rates annually towards zero waste to landfill
  • Actively encourage the use of sustainable materials. For instance, we work closely with our supply chain on the use of sustainable timber and run seminars on how to become FSC/PEFC certified, with a number of our key joinery contractors achieving certification.

At Overbury, we assume legal compliance is our starting point and challenge ourselves to innovate and collaborate to improve environmental performance year-on-year. Having an environmental management system that is ISO 14001 certified is critical, we are now working towards the BS 16001 energy management system
