The BBC offices at MediaCity in Salford hosted Overbury’s latest seminar “Capitalising on Public Sector Assets”, run in conjunction with Governetz. The event took place on November 10th.
Seven speakers covered a range of topics which gave delegates a clear insight into challenges facing the public sector as a result of expenditure cuts and how different councils and bodies are tackling these issues.
David Werran, Governetz - provided an overview of the “hot topics” amongst the public sector with regards to public service delivery and public property.
John Connell, Communities and Local Government - spoke about Capital and Asset Pathfinders and highlighted the benefits of using mapping to identify possible opportunities and potential barriers.
Jim Bennett, Homes and Communities Agency - explained the models and tools developed by the HCA that can support disposal and development to realise savings as well as supporting local housing and economic growth priorities.
Alan Stokes, Worcestershire County Council - described how rationalisation within Worcestershire County Council acted as the catalyst for improved service delivery and long term collaboration.
Alan Bainbridge, BBC - spoke about the challenges that faced the BBC during the move to the new offices at MediaCity in Salford and outlined the progress of the project to date.
Gillian Bishop, Wigan Council – analysed the task of mapping the future of public service delivery within Wigan Council and discussed the benefits of colocation and collaboration.
Martin Forbes, West Midlands Property Alliance - reflected on the achievements and outcomes of the efforts made by the Alliance over the last ten years as well as identifying barriers to moving forward and how they can be overcome.
The seminar concluded with a Q&A session involving the full panel of speakers.
Delegate Allan Harty from Cumbria County Council had the following feedback on the event “I found the seminar very useful and informative and am looking forward to sharing the case studies with a colleague. A number of the issues discussed were very relevant to our own authority”.
